African Women Heat Ambassadors Program

Objective

The African Women Heat Ambassadors Program aims to empower women in African cities to become leaders in advocating for heat resilience, fostering awareness, and implementing local actions to combat the impacts of climate change. In partnership with Climate Resilience for All, led by the Africa Heat Resilience Officer, the program will create a network of Heat Ambassadors who will contribute to the development of sustainable and resilient communities.

Selection and Training

Open a call for applications to identify passionate and committed women in African cities interested in becoming Heat Ambassadors. Conduct a comprehensive training program covering climate change, heat resilience, communication skills, and advocacy strategies.

Visibility and Storytelling Platform

Create a dedicated online platform to showcase the stories of Heat Ambassadors and their respective cities. Organize webinars, podcasts, and interviews featuring Heat Ambassadors, providing them with a platform to share their experiences, challenges, and success stories.

Panel and Seminar Participation

Include Heat Ambassadors as speakers in regional and international panels, seminars, and conferences related to climate change, heat resilience, and sustainable development. Facilitate networking opportunities with experts, policymakers, and fellow ambassadors to enhance collaboration and knowledge-sharing.

Africa Heat Resilience Summit

Collaborate with Climate Resilience for all to organize the annual Africa Heat Resilience Summit. Feature Heat Ambassadors as key contributors and allow them to showcase their initiatives and findings. Encourage active participation from Heat Ambassadors in summit discussions and workshops.

Local Action Campaigns

Support Heat Ambassadors in designing and implementing local initiatives to promote heat resilience, such as tree planting campaigns, sustainable urban planning, and community education programs. Provide financial and logistical assistance for impactful projects initiated by Heat Ambassadors.

Go Green Africa Campaign

Establish a robust monitoring and evaluation system to track the impact of the program, including the number of local initiatives implemented, awareness raised, and the overall contribution of Heat Ambassadors to climate resilience

Selection Criteria

  • Passion for Climate Action: Demonstrated commitment to addressing climate change and promoting sustainable practices.
  • Knowledge of Local Context: Understanding of the unique climate challenges faced by their respective cities and regions.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey messages and advocate for change.
  • Leadership Potential: Ability to inspire and lead community initiatives, fostering collaboration and inclusivity.
  • Diversity and Inclusion: Commitment to diversity and inclusion, ensuring representation of different backgrounds, ages, and experiences.
  • Innovative Thinking: Capacity to develop creative solutions and innovative projects to address heat resilience challenges.
  • Networking Abilities: Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including local communities, NGOs, and government bodies.
  • Availability and Commitment: Availability to actively participate in training sessions, events, and ongoing program activities.
  • Previous Engagement in Environmental Initiatives: Past involvement in environmental or climate-related projects is a plus.
  • Tech-Savvy: Comfortable using online platforms for communication, collaboration, and storytelling.

  • Training Program Participation: Attend and actively engage in the comprehensive training program covering climate change, heat resilience, communication skills, and advocacy strategies.
  • Storytelling and Visibility: Share personal stories and experiences related to heat resilience on the dedicated online platform.
  • Participate in webinars, podcasts, and interviews to amplify their voices and experiences.
  • Local Action Initiatives: Develop and implement local projects that promote heat resilience and sustainability in their communities. Coordinate with local stakeholders to ensure the success of these initiatives.
  • Panel and Seminar Engagement: Participate as speakers in regional and international panels, seminars, and conferences.
  • Actively contribute to discussions and share insights on climate resilience and women’s leadership.
  • Collaboration and Networking: Network with fellow Heat Ambassadors, experts, policymakers, and organizations. Foster collaboration for joint initiatives and knowledge-sharing.
  • Africa Heat Resilience Summit Involvement: Participate actively in the organization of the annual Africa Heat Resilience Summit. Showcase local initiatives and findings during the summit.
  • Go Green Africa Campaign Participation: Integrate into the Go Green Africa campaign, organizing and participating in community events aligned with campaign objectives. Encourage sustainable practices within their communities.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly update on the progress of local initiatives and report on the impact of their efforts.
  • Provide feedback on the effectiveness of the program and suggest improvements.
  • Advocacy and Outreach: Act as advocates for heat resilience, engaging with local media, communities, and decision-makers. Encourage public awareness and participation in climate action.
  • Community Engagement: Foster community engagement through workshops, educational programs, and outreach activities.
  • Encourage the active involvement of community members in sustainable practices. By incorporating these selection criteria and key tasks, the African Women Heat Ambassadors Program can ensure the recruitment of dedicated individuals and outline clear responsibilities for program participants, fostering a collective effort toward climate resilience in African cities.
